Poll: Men Make the AV Buying Decisions But Only Half Consult Spouse

When it comes to buying AV gear for the household, 99 percent of the respondents to last week’s survey said they make all or most of the decisions. The results were evenly spit between those who “make most AV buying decisions…but consult my spouse/significant other” (42 percent) and those who “make all AV buying decisions…without consulting my spouse/significant other” (40 percent). Only 17 percent said they consult their significant other “before purchasing any new AV gear.” Here are the complete results:

42% – I make most AV buying decisions on my own but consult my spouse/significant other on big-ticket purchases. I am male.

40% – I make all AV buying decisions on my own without consulting my spouse/significant other. I am male.

17% – I consult my spouse/significant other before purchasing any new AV gear. I am male.

1% – I make all AV buying decisions on my own without consulting my spouse/significant other. I am female.

<1% – I make most AV buying decisions on my own but consult my spouse/significant other on big-ticket purchases. I am female.

<1% I consult my spouse/significant other before purchasing any new AV gear. I am female.

Creating useful polls isn't as easy as it looks. The simple addition of an option, "I do not have an SO/spose to consult" would have been more telling. In otherwords, of the 50% who do not consult a spouse, how many of them are single? Additionally, what is the male/female ratio of your magazine/website's readership (you should already have this data)?

The reality is that men THINK they make the AV buying decisions. Just like we think we make all the other decisions in the household. Ladies know otherwise :-)

What was the sample size by the way?

Huh...the divorce rate in the US is between 40 and 50% on average. Correlation or coincidence?

Non of the respondents had to mention if they were single. I am ready to bet that the men that do not consult (40%) are mostly single.
