Pioneer Previews its First 11-Channel AV Receiver

Pioneer introduced its first 11.2-channel AV receiver last week at CEDIA 2016.

The SC-LX901 ($3,000), slated to ship by the end of the month, supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, 4K/60p/4:4:4 24-bit video signal transmission, HDCP 2.2 copy protection, high dynamic range (HDR) content, and the BT.2020 video standard for expanded color gamut.

The receiver features Pioneer’s Class D3 (Direct Energy HD) amplifiers, said to allow simultaneous output from all channels with no power loss, and incorporates high-performance ESS SABRE32 Ultra digital-analog converters (DACs). Rated power is 11 x 140 watts (8 ohms at 0.08% THD).

The LX901 also supports high-resolution audio up to 192 kHz/24-bit (including DSD) as well as music streaming services Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, Tidal, and Deezer and is equipped with MCACC Pro, a proprietary automatic room calibration system said to optimize object-based surround sound formats such as Dolby Atmos to create a more realistic sound field. Future firmware updates will add support for wireless multiroom distribution and Google Cast.

Other highlights include a revamped user interface said to simplify initial setup and facilitate quick access to network settings.

Pioneer also introduced two 9.1-channel models that share many of the same features as the SC-LX901: the SC-LX801 ($2,000) and the SC-LX701 ($1,600), rated to deliver 9 x 140 and 9 x 135 watts into 8 ohms, respectively.
