Linkplay Launches All-in-One, Audiophile-Grade Streaming Amp

Linkplay Technology, California-based maker of smart music streamers and an Alexa-powered streamer/alarm clock, has introduced a compact, all-in-one streaming amplifier that makes it easy for anyone with a set of beloved yet underutilized speakers to stream high-quality music from a variety of sources.

Available on Amazon for $299, the new WiiM Amp combines a streamer/preamp with a Class D power amplifier and ESS Technology’s patented 32-bit HyperStream digital-to-analog converter (DAC) in a 7.5-inch-square aluminum box only 2.5 inches tall. The amp supports resolutions up to 24 bits/192 kHz with gapless playback via its ARC-enabled HDMI connection and has a rated output of 60 watts/channel into 8 ohms or 120 watts/channel into 4 ohms.

As a streamer/preamp, the WiiM Amp puts a wealth of popular streaming services at your fingertips through its support of Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2 and its own Wiim Home app, which provides direct access to Qoboz, Tidal, Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Napster, TuneIn, Deezer, and other services.

The app also caters to audiophiles with an impressive lineup of equalization (EQ) options, which include a four-band parametric EQ, 10-band graphic EQ, 24 EQ presets, and the ability to create an independent EQ profile for each of its inputs: HDMI, optical, USB, Bluetooth (5.0), analog RCA, and LAN/network. In addition to its stereo speaker outputs, the WiiM Amp has an auto-detecting subwoofer output with an adjustable (30-200 Hz) crossover.

Wireless control is front and center as the WiiM Amp works with Siri, Alexa, and Google virtual assistants in addition to its own voice controller, which is built into the optional WiiM Voice Remote ($20 on Amazon). The system supports all major audio formats as well as Alexa Music Cast and DLNA for sharing content around the home via Wi-Fi
