LG to Unveil Portable Laser Projector at CES

LG has announced that it will unveil its first portable laser projector at CES, which opens in Las Vegas in two weeks.

Aimed at home theater enthusiasts, the LG HF80JA ProBeam is hailed as “the industry’s lightest Full HD laser projector in the brightness range of 2,000 lumens.” It weighs 4.6 pounds and is built around an “advanced laser engine” said to produce up to 2,000 lumens of brightness, enabling viewers to watch TV and movies in a bright room.

Pricing and availability have yet to be determined, according to an LG spokesperson.

Unlike a conventional projector, which is designed for mounting on a ceiling or high shelf, the ProBeam is a décor-friendly “standing design” intended to be transported and placed on the floor. Its laser assembly is I-shaped, which contributes to its portability.

The projector is equipped with LG’s webOS smart TV platform and includes the company’s Magic Remote for navigating its onscreen interface. It also supports the Miracast display standard, which enables video content on a smartphone or tablet/PC screen to be “mirrored” on the projector, and Bluetooth connectivity so sound can be streamed wirelessly to a Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones.

Four-corner and vertical auto keystone adjustments are said to make it easy to adjust the image based on the projector’s location vis-à-vis the screen or projection area.
