Determined to keep OLED top of mind at a time when mini-LED LCD display technology is coming on strong, LG today offered a preview of the OLED TV lineup it will unveil in Las Vegas next week at CES 2024.

Last week, in keeping with its tradition of making key announcements before the show opens, the company previewed 2024 QNED models, featuring LG’s take on mini-LED and other image enhancing technologies.

Neither announcement included details on pricing and availability.

With its 2024 OLED TVs, LG is touting a new AI processor it says quadruples the power of its previous OLED processor and uses pixel-level analysis to improve color and bring enhanced clarity to upscaled images. Picture enhancements also include Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro, which splits the picture into blocks and analyzes each in real-time to detect the darkest and brightest areas.

However, the company is reserving is top artificial-intelligence processor, the new Alpha 11 (α11), for new OLED G4 TVs and Signature OLED M4 wireless models. In addition to being “30% faster” than its predecessor, the α11 is said to deliver a “70% improvement in graphic performance.”

As with the QNED models announced last week, LG is aiming to boost personalization and convenience of its OLED models through a new version of its webOS platform that recognizes users by voice and lets viewers create up to 10 individual profiles.

The platform is also compatible with smart home devices supporting Matter, the universal standard for smart-home IoT interoperability, and designed to “give LG smart TV owners an up-to-date user experience for the next five years” — an upgrade promise that extends to the company’s 2022 OLED TVs and 2022 QNED Mini LED 8K TVs with other models promised in the future.

The new OLED TVs will also support Apple AirPlay and Chromecast for enhanced convenience in connectivity and compatibility with mobile devices.

To entice gamers, LG’s 2024 OLED TVs will feature a 144-Hz refresh rate and a Game Optimizer for switching between display presets in addition to supporting Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync technologies for smoother gaming.

The use of artificial intelligence extends beyond picture performance in the form of what LG calls AI Sound Pro, which is said to improve audio by using virtual 11.1.2 surround-sound processing and the TV’s built-in speakers to create an immersive sound experience with enhanced dialogue placement and intelligibility. The TVs also include LG’s Wow Orchestra feature for seamlessly integrating sound from the TV’s built-in speakers with an LG soundbar.

LG also announced plans to bring a more affordable 65-inch option to its pricey Signature OLED M4 lineup, which currently offers 77-, 83-, and 97-inch screen sizes at $5,000, $8,000, and $30,000, respectively. All models in the Signature M4 series eliminate cable clutter by transmitting 4K video and audio wirelessly to a Zero Connect Box that can be located in a convenient spot away from the TV.
