Levitating Speakers Are Apparently a Thing

Whether it dates back to classic TV shows like My Favorite Martian who knows but levitating speakers are apparently a thing. We recommended the Om/One novelty speaker in our 2014 Holiday Gift Guide and now Taiwan-based ASWY has announced that it will unveil a prototype wireless home theater system with levitating speakers at IFA 2016 in Berlin, which opens September 4.

Dubbed Spaco, the 5.1-channel system comprises two levitating tower speakers, three cube satellites, and a subwoofer. Aswy plans to officially launch the system on Indiegogo in late September.

Features include wireless connectivity between the speakers and main system, Bluetooth/aptX streaming, multiroom functionality, and playback of Hi-Res Audio files up to 192kHz/24-bit. The system can be controlled via an app or by voice via a microphone and offers HDMI, optical, coaxial digital, and analog audio inputs. Power, rated at 10 percent THD, is 5 x 35 watts plus 75 watts for the subwoofer.

Aswy said regular pricing for a 2.1 channel system (two towers, one subwoofer) will be $1,599 or $1,199 on Indiegogo at launch. A 5.1 channel package will be priced at $2,399, or $1,599 on Indiegogo. Prices are subject to change.
