Integra Debuts First DLP Projector

Texas Instruments' Digital Light Processing is high-resolution video's hottest technology. Integra is the latest name to join the DLP fraternity with its DLV-1000 video projector, a product that---when combined with its companion processor, the Faroudja FPV-1---should make even the most demanding movie fan ecstatic.

The DLV-100FP1 is capable of casting a clear and bright (1000 ANSI lumens) high-definition image of up to 200 inches measured diagonally---although it weighs just a few pounds and measures only 9.5" W x 7.75" D x 2" tall. The single DLP chip requires no complex color and image alignments, so installation and setup are a breeze.

The Integra projector is HDTV ready, with an XGA native resolution of 1024x768. In "long-life" mode, the DLV-100FP1puts out a brightness level of 760-800 ANSI lumens, extending bulb life and allowing for quieter fan operation due to reduced heat. Video inputs include composite, S-Video, and RGB; a PC control port interfaces with AMX, Crestron, and other home automation systems. A USB port provides direct connection of a mouse for use with on-screen menus.

Available separately, the Integra/Faroudja FPV-1 Digital Processor "converts an interlaced signal into an unadulterated, high frequency 768-pixel progressive signal that is a pixel-to-pixel match with the DLV-100," says a company announcement. Image improvements include Faroudja's patented "Diagonal Correlation Deinterlacing" to prevent jagged-edged motion artifacts. Edit-detection circuitry with 3:2 pull-down provides clean images from film-based video sources; Faroudja's patented cross-color suppression and 10-bit adaptive digital comb filtering are said to enhance color purity and image detail.

The FPV-1 features inputs for HD/computer, component video, S-video, and composite, and an RGB video output. It has front-panel controls for brightness, color, contrast, tint, and aspect ratio, plus four presets. As with the projector, an RS232 control port allows the processor to work with AMX, Crestron, and other home automation systems.

Other features include Digital Zoom, a built-in slot for a Compact Flash card, and a presentation viewer for creating "slide shows" with images from a digital camera. The combination Integra DLV-100FP1 /Faroudja FPV-1 sells for $10,500. The DLV-100 DLP projector is available individually at a suggested retail price of $7,000.
