Hollywood and DEG Finalize 4K Disc Packaging

The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) today announced that it has developed packaging for the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs heading our way early next year.

Developed in cooperation with eight studios—Paramount, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., HBO, Lionsgate, and Anchor Bay—the new Blu-ray “Elite” packaging will sport a “carbonized black color with metallic silver text and logo.” DEG said it’s intended to promote consistency and “drive more rapid adoption” of the new format.

The official 4K Ultra HD logo adopted by the CEA (shown) will serve as the header of the package while the new Ultra HD Blu-ray logo will be featured on the spine, back cover, and the disc itself. The header is designed to differentiate Ultra HD content from current Blu-ray titles.

DEG said the Ultra HD Blu-ray packaging will accommodate both single discs and combo packs offering a standard Blu-ray disc along with the 4K UHD disc.
