HiFiMan Leverages Nanotechnology in New Headphone

HiFiMan founder Dr. Fang Bian says he leveraged his background in nanotechnology to develop a low-mass diaphragm that’s less than 0.001mm thick for the company’s new flagship planar-magnetic headphone, the HE1000, which will sell for $2,999 when it begins shipping this month.

Seven years in the making, the open-back headphone uses a double-sided asymmetrical magnetic circuit and a patented “window shade” grille made with premium alloys to achieve “lifelike clarity.”

Highlights include velour earpads beveled for comfort and to achieve a good acoustic seal, an “ergonomic” calf-skin headband with a metal alloy frame, and high purity, oxygen-free copper (OCC) wiring. The headphone comes with three connectors: mini plug, ¼-inch phone plug, and 4-pin XLR.
