ezGear BluCobra: Affordable Blu-ray

ezGear, you know, they make, umm, well some audio and video gear.  Can't name any products off the top of my head, but whatever. ezGear is introducing the BluCobra EZ3000 Blu-ray disc player.  Not sure why, but I can't help but imagine them using Zoolander's Blue Steel look to sell the BluCobra.

But seriously, the BluCobra has an impressive list of features. Not only can it play DVD and Blu-ray, with full 1080p/24Hz output, it can also play SACD discs. Not bad. If only they included DVD-Audio on the list . . .

The BluCobra can downconvert to 1080i, 720p and 480i for lower resolution TVs. Unfortunately, it does not support Profile 2.0 BD-Live, but it is BD Profile 1.1, supporting Bonus View and BD-ROM.

According to Charlie Bernstein, President of ezGear . . .

“With the conversion to HDTV almost complete, the demand for affordable Blu-ray players is growing everyday.  To date, full-featured Blu-ray players have been too expensive for many consumers.  With the economic challenges facing everyone, ezGear believes American consumers are looking for Blu-ray products they can afford.  With an affordable price and the flexibility of the EZ3000 to connect to virtually any TV or Stereo, ezGear is making it easier for consumers to adopt digital television in 2009.”

The price isn't as low-price as you would expect - it's expected to sell for $399.99 or below when released in this Spring. How much would you pay for the BluCobra? — Leslie Shapiro
