Elite Unveils Light-Rejecting, Ultra Short-Throw Screen

Elite Prime Vision (EPV) has introduced an ambient-light-rejecting projection screen designed for use with ultra-short-throw projectors that sit against the wall at the base of the screen.

The DarkStar UST eFinity screen, currently available in a 120-inch (diagonal) size with a 16:9 aspect ratio, is said to reject ceiling light that would otherwise mar image quality. A special 0.5 gain material with a multi-layered optical microstructure filters out up to 95 percent of overhead lighting, enhancing color contrast, black levels, and dynamic range while maintaining a 180-degree viewing angle, according to EPV. Suggested retail price of the screen is $6,388.

The screen material wraps around an internal framework for an “edge free” look. EPV includes a 9mm (0.4-inch) bezel for those who prefer a subtle frame and LED backlighting kit (as shown in photo); the kit has variable settings and is controlled by an infrared (IR) remote. A spring-hook mounting scheme is said to make it easy to attach screen material to the frame with “perfect tension uniformity” and the frame is split to reduce package size for easier maneuverability and lower shipping costs.

“The next big move in projection design is to replace the household TV set with a larger-than-life display,” said Dave Rodgers, marketing manager for EPV, the custom installation division of Elite Screens.

“A big obstacle to this was the shadow intrusions made by people stepping between the projector and screen. But this problem is resolved with the DarkStar UST since it is designed for use with ultra-short-throw (UST) projectors. Combining an ambient light rejecting (ALR) material with a short-throw platform creates a huge display that dwarfs a 100-inch flat panel for a fraction of the cost.”

DarkStar UST eFinity screens are covered by Elite’s limited lifetime warranty. For more information, visit epvscreens.com.

Sweet, just like the screens from Screen Innovations that they have been making for years!
