Dangbei Portable 4K Laser Projector Is First with Google TV and Netflix App

Dangbei, the Chinese company specializing in portable projectors, today announced a new flagship portable it says is the first Google TV-based 4K laser projector to include a built-in Netflix app for quick access to the streaming service’s vast library of programming.

A follow-up to last year’s Mars Pro projector, the new Mars Pro 2 will sell for $1,899 when it ships on May 28th but Dangbei is offering a $400 discount and free gimbal stand valued at $139 to buyers who sign up to receive the company’s newsletter prior to the official launch date.

With a brightness rating of 2450 ISO lumens, the Mars Pro 2 exceeds its predecessor’s rating of 1800 ISO lumens, making it Dangbei's brightest projector. Interestingly, under the terms of a court-imposed settlement with Epson announced in February, Dangbei agreed to correct an inflated ISO lumens spec it had published for the Mars Pro, reducing it from 3200 to 1800.

The Mars Pro 2 can project images up to 200 inches (diagonal) and supports HDR10+ high dynamic range (HDR) processing in addition to providing a robust all-in-one streaming experience through the Google TV interface, which makes it easy to manage watch lists and user profiles and get personalized recommendations from Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, and other streaming services.

Dangbei says the pre-installed Netflix app “delivers smooth, stutter-free playback, taking Netflix viewing on projectors to new heights,” while its Advanced Laser Phosphor Display (ALPD) technology ensures images are free of speckle and color fringing.

The projector features a built-in 12-watt dual-speaker sound system that supports Dolby Audio and DTS:X surround sound and provides a low-latency game mode that draws on a 4K 60 Hz refresh rate, HDMI 2.1, and Wi-Fi 6 to enhance gameplay.

The Mars Pro 2 also supports 3D and introduces a new image optimization technology Dangbei calls InstanPro AI Image Setup, which leverages dToF, CMOS, and AI algorithms to automate and expedite projector setup by handling autofocus, keystone correction, screen fit, obstacle avoidance, eye protection, and AI brightness control.
