Comcast Cozies up with Custom Installers, Adds Atmos

You might not expect to see Comcast exhibiting at CEDIA but the company is here promoting the latest wrinkle to its Xfinity X1 platform—a rack-mountable box for custom installers.

Offered as part of Comcast’s Custom Xfinity Integration (CXI) program, the box is functionally the same as the Arris XG1 set-top box but in a form factor that makes sense for professional system builders who tend to aggregate components in a dedicated closet or other space away from the TV.

Comcast also announced plans to add Dolby Atmos capability and IP control to the X1 platform early next year. IP control will make it easier for users to operate X1 with both standard and customized universal remote controls.

Custom installers and home theater professionals who belong to the CXI program enjoy fast-track support from Comcast—no calling the general 800 number—and are allowed to set up and adjust Comcast equipment.
