Long one of the audio industry's most respected equipment makers, Canada's Bryston has made an impressive move into the home theater market with several new products. Notable among them is the 6B-ST amplifier, a three-channel powerhouse capable of 250 watts/channel into an 8-ohm load or a whopping 400 watts into 4.

The 6B-ST is actually a rack-mountable chassis housing three fully modular mono power amps, each with its own independent power supply with over 40,000 MFD of filter capacitance. This design not only improves the 6B's reliability, but also reduces interchannel crosstalk to vanishingly low levels. Only a soft-start AC circuit is shared by the three channels, each of which has its own indicator LED.

Two 6B-STs will provide all the power needed for a full-range surround system. A pair can also be used to bi-amp or tri-amp high-performance stereo loudspeakers. Each amplifier module features a three-position gain switch for balanced or unbalanced inputs, and a polarity switch to make speaker-to-speaker phase alignment easy. A remote 12-volt trigger allows the amp to be switched on or off by a similarly equipped preamp.

The Bryston 6B-ST measures 19" W (standard rack mount black faceplate) x 19" D x 7" H and weighs 85lbs. A silver faceplate is available as an option, as is a 17" version without handles. Like all Bryston products, the 6B-ST carries a 20-year warranty.
