Blu-ray sales up 68% this year

The sales numbers are in for the first quarter of 2010, and they bring good news for Blu-ray. According to Home Media Magazine by way of Engadget HD, Blu-ray Disc sales have jumped 68% compared to the same time last year. This is a huge increase, especially compared to the paltry 3.1% increase for all packaged media (DVDs, CD, Blu-ray Discs).

In the week ending March 28, Blu-ray sales jumped almost 90% compared to the same week last year. Meanwhile, DVD sales dropped over 10% in the same period. Blu-ray Discs account for about one-tenth of all packaged media, so the format still has a way to go before it dominates the market. Still, this is a very impressive trend.
