HDMI Connectors
Type A The standard Type A HDMI connector has 19 pins, with bandwidth to support all SDTV, EDTV and HDTV modes and more. The plug outside dimensions is 13.9 mm wide by 4.45 mm high. Type A is electrically compatible with single-link DVI-D.
Type B A higher resolution version called Type B is defined in HDMI 1.0. Where Type A has bandwidth of 340MHz with the 1.3 Spec., Type B bandwidth is 680Mhz with the 1.3 Spec. Type B has 29 pins (21.2 mm wide), allowing it to carry an expanded video channel for use with very high-resolution future displays, such as WQSXGA (3200x2048). Type B is electrically compatible with dual-link DVI-D, but is not in general use.
Type C mini-connector is intended for portable devices. It is smaller than Type A (10.42 mm by 2.42 mm) but has the same 19-pin configuration.
Cable Adapters and Repeaters
Adapters are available that can take one type of connector and allow it to be used with a display or source using a different type of connector.
DVI-D to HDMI converter
One of the most popular adapter being used currently is for the conversion of a DVI-D connection to a HDMI connection. This converter does not allow for the digital transmission of the audio signal as DVI-D was not originally designed for digital audio transmission.
HDMI and DVI-D Repeaters
HDMI and DVI-D Repeaters extend the distance that a digital signal can be transmitted from a source to a display or processor.
HDMI 180-Degree Swivel Adaptor
For HDMI connections where clearance is a problem for the connector. The adapter swivels left or right providing 180 degrees of angled connections. Ideal for close clearance applications between flat panel and wall
