Xbox 360 Gamers Get the HD Blues

Sure, the high-def format war was tense and bloody, though it had nothing on Call of Duty 4 or Assassin's Creed.

But for gamers who don't already own both a PlayStation 3 and an Xbox 360, the format war may have left them feeling just a little unsatisfied. Sony's PS3 comes with a built-in Blu-ray player, while the Xbox 360 supported an optional HD DVD drive.

The Financial Times is reporting that Sony is in talks with Microsoft to create such a device for the PS3, while gaming site Next Gen quotes a Microsoft PR representative stating that "There are no plans to introduce Blu-ray." Until one of these companies makes an official announcement, gamers will have to hedge their bets.

Which type of gamers might be eager to see Microsoft capitulate to Sony and begin offering a Blu-ray player? Microsoft Fan Boys - Gamers who've sworn allegiance to Microsoft  - would never consider purchasing a product from arch-rival Sony, so putting Blu-ray in a 360 is the only way they'll get HD in a game system (even though they won't be thrilled that Sony would get cash from Microsoft's license of the Sony-owned Blu-ray system).

But even gamers who swing both ways know at some point all games - Sony exclusives and Microsoft exclusives - will require a high-def player. More and more games are coming close to filling up an entire DVD and more space is needed (which Blu-ray discs have in abundance). Expect a Blu-ray announcement from Microsoft before Xbox 360 titles reach that space-crunch. -Rachel Rosmarin

It seems that the format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD left some Xbox 360 gamers wanting more. While PlayStation 3 came with a built-in Blu-ray player, Xbox 360 relied on an optional HD DVD drive. There's talk about Sony and Microsoft potentially teaming up to bring Blu-ray to the Xbox 360, which might interest gamers who've pledged loyalty to Microsoft but still want high-definition gaming. This could be a game-changer in the gaming environment https://kevurugames.com/game-art/game-environment-design/ , providing a new level of visual experience if it happens
