HT Labs Measures: Sharp LC-30HV2U LCD TV

The top chart shows the gray scale of the Sharp HD monitor relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 95 IRE is bright white). As you can see, the gray scale as set by the factory, in the most accurate menu setting, measures 9,300 Kelvin with dark images and leans more toward 6,500 K with brighter images. Due to technical difficulties, we were unable to make further adjustments. The bottom chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue LCD panels. The color points of the LCD are slightly shy of those specified by SMPTE, which means that fully saturated colors ranging from red to green won't be as saturated as they should be with this display. The gray scale leans blue with darker images and is more accurate with brighter images. The light output was a screaming 55 foot-lamberts. The display has good DC restoration and an accurate color decoder.—MW
