Why pay for new when you can get a used previously owned Canon HD Cam? These Canon HV20 high-definition camcorders are refurbished units, and they were available from Vann's for just $449.77. Compare that to their new price: $999.

These refurbished units came with a one-year warranty on parts and labor. Worried about a refurbished piece of equipment? I'm typing this on a laptop that I bought, refurbished nine years ago. There you go.

Recording to MiniDV, with a 10x optical zoom and 2.96-megapixel image, the cameras are refurbished by Canon. Problem is, they're all sold out. Yup. You snooze, you lose.  But, if Vann's had them, odds are that someone else will. Start searching. —Leslie Shapiro
