Global Standard for Home Wiring

Looking to make sure your new home theater is up to spec? The International Telecommunication Union, an agency within the United Nations, has finalized a standard - a global standard - for wiring that covers cable, phone, power, and all your home network wiring.

Why do we need a standard?

This new standard will be used in devices such as those to move HDTV from room to room. This wired standard will compete with Wi-Fi for home network applications.

This new G.hn standard will allow data throughput of 800 Mbits/s over coax lines, and 50 to over 700 Mbits/s over phone or power lines.

Might be time to start planning your home network. —Leslie Shapiro
