DVD REVIEW: The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Cowritten and directed by Andrew Adamson (who also brought us Shrek and Shrek 2 and is now working on Shrek 3), this exhilarating, impeccably cast film adaptation of the fantasy tale by C. S. Lewis gets exceptional treatment on this two-disc Collector's Edition. The 2.35:1 widescreen picture is sharply focused and colorful, and there are stellar sound options: DTS 5.1 (edgier, cleaner) and Dolby Digital 5.1 Home Theater Mix (warmer, more enveloping). Extras include two engaging commentaries and optional trivia cards that pop up without obscuring too much of the image. You also get an abundance of better-than-usual short production documentaries, a brief biographical featurette on Lewis, and a funny blooper reel. [PG] English, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1; French and Spanish, Dolby Surround; letterboxed (2.35:1) and anamorphic widescreen; two dual-layer discs.
