Comcast makes plans for 3D supremacy

Comcast clearly thinks 3D is an important part of the future of television, and it's aiming to be the new king of the third dimension. According to Multichannel News, Comcast is planning to offer a steadily growing stream of 3D content in the coming year.

It's started with The Final Destination, which Comcast is offering on-demand in 2D and 3D versions at both standard and high definitions. The 3D versions cost the same as their 2D brethren, and glasses are available for free when you purchase the movie, and at malls.

The current 3D content is offered in old-school anaglyph 3D, which means two colored lenses separate the image into two. The good side is that this type of video can be displayed on virtually any screen. The bad news is it's those weird colored lenses. Comcast does have plans to offer more advanced 3D content, which will work with 3D-capable HDTVs and uncolored glasses, but nothing specific has been announced.
