Regarding the commercial skip...The only thing that is stealing is the excessive cable/sat rates we are charged to watch television and then be bombarded incessantly with inane ads for products we already know are there...and are not buying at the time we are being advertised to...commercials should be bundled at the top and bottom of every hour to insure we are entertained by what we are tuned in for..and have the option of viewing the commercial if we so choose...I believe commercials/advertisers should concentrate on advertising in the actual buying environment..(Grocery store..Mall..Dept Store etc..) That way you can make your purchased based on the ad at the point of sale and not trying to remember some stupid jingle or less than clever mock societal gag ad...JMHO...

ahhh, panasonic vcr with commercial advance. I remembered that good ol' piece of tech. I kept it for 2 weeks. that was when panasonic's VCR quality declined, as they became cheaper. but playback quality is not as good. I had to return that VCR because the playback is nowhere near my other 2 Panasonic VCRs.with regards to actual commercial advance, I assume more can be done on the computer side. but not on the DVR side anymore. On my MacMini home theater PC set up, there was additional software that one can install with the tuner software, so that when recordings are made, the commercial times gets flagged, and it skips for you automatically, and I love that feature. It is not 100% fool proof however, as sometimes it can be off. But since DVR are either tie in with cable or satellite companies, which have contracts with broadcast companies, I think that feature will not come by again. The best bet was Tivo. But since Replay TV lost that war to broadcasters, I think it's gone too. very sad i
