Speaker manufacturers are catching on to the fact that just because someone is buying a soundbar doesn’t mean that they want to sacrifice a quality audio experience. Klipsch released three new bars at CES, with all models crafted from wood and utilizing horn-loaded technology to look and sound like the brand’s acclaimed Reference speakers and deliver a premium soundbar experience.

One of the big announcements from Sony’s CEDIA keynote address was that the company’s FMP-X10 4K media player would be updated later in the year to work with other companies TVs, meaning Sony is going to partially unlock its proprietary connection. This is great news for Ultra HD content starved viewers, however it will likely still require a separate HDMI cable for audio from the media player to the processor and for video to the TV. Lame. Fortunately, Krell figured out a way around this.

Chances are you have a touchscreen phone that uses some form of swipe or button press combo to unlock the phone for use. As you know, the oils on your fingers can leave smudges behind, and over time can leave a tell-tale treasure map of greasy DNA to tell people which buttons are used to unlock your phone.

Since the touchscreens on smart door locks are used far less frequently – and primarily for entering the home’s unlock code – this can be a real problem, and can leave smart lock owners vulnerable to something far more than someone checking out your emails and selfies. Fortunately Kwikset has added a new technology to foil any would-be fingerprint grabbers with a simple and foolproof method called SecureScreen.

What is cooler than Dr. Evil's sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads? Nothing. Stupid question. But what's the second coolest thing to use laser beams? That would be Mitsubishi's new Laser TV, which had its worldwide unveiling last night at the 53rd floor of the Palms hotel in the Moon Nightclub.

Launched at the high-end Munich audio show this past May, Lexicon displayed its new SL-1 active loudspeaker at CEDIA. The flagship system takes a radically different approach to providing either a pinpoint audio image or room filling sound by employing a ring of individually amplified and controlled drivers. The speakers can be freely positioned and use advanced beam steering technology to aim and focus the sweet spot almost anywhere in the room to ensure the best possible sound at the listening position.

One of the great things about the Eureka Park section of CES is that you can stumble across the cool new ideas that have yet to make it to market. Such is the case with LifeDoor, designed by a former firefighter to protect his family.

If you’ve never seen a 3D printer in action, well, then you are missing out my friend. Watching the printer head whizzing back and forth, slowly growing, building and creating a 3D creation, it is just totally cool and like magic. And in the world of 3D printing, MakerBot is at the forefront.

MakerBot’s Chief Executive, Ben Petti, says that his company and product is about unleashing your creativity and to date there are over 44,000 MakerBots in the world. And they see this number growing to over 1,000,000.
