Sharp’s DLP front projectors have always been overachievers that offered a ridiculous amount of performance for the money. Nevertheless, with the company’s sharp (ahem) focus on LCD flat panels, I wasn’t certain we’d see any new front projector products from Sharp at this show. Well, I was wrong!

Director Steven Soderbergh’s latest firecracker of a movie, Side Effects, is really two distinct movies. As good as it is, it would have been even better if it had stuck with the first one. Side Effects begins as a harrowing look at a woman’s descent into a crushing clinical depression and finally full-blown psychosis.

Silicon Optix was demonstrating the 1080p HD beta version of its renowned <I>HQV Benchmark</I> disc with deintlacing, scaling and other various torture tests for displays. On top of that, select memebers of the press, including yours truly were given copies that we can run the tests on our HD DVD players and displays upon returning home.

SIM2 announced late Friday that it is previewing the Grand Cinema HT5000 three-chip 1080p DLP projector, and will soon have a broad line of 1080p DLPs starting at just $10K.
