The World’s Largest Small Camcorder

It’s not the most portable of camcorders, but it’s guaranteed to make quite an impression the next time you take it to your kid’s soccer game. In fact, the other team might quit before the game even starts when you whip this baby out of the back of your minivan.

If you don’t want to be so obvious when it comes to taking impromptu family videos, you can use Sanyo’s slightly smaller Xacti HD1000. It’s $799, does full 1080i HD recording (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264), has a 10x optical zoom, and a 2.7-inch widescreen display. The HD1000 I briefly played with seemed pretty easy to use, although the handheld pistol-style design made it feel a bit like shooting a gun instead of shooting video. (If only the second shooter at Dealy Plaza had used one of these, Presidential history might have been quite a bit different.)

I wasn’t able to measure the screen size of the jumbo mockup, but it had to be at least 32 inches.
