Vidikron's New Projectors

Vidikron is back in action.

Now a division of Union City, CA-based Runco, Inc., Vidikron took advantage of the recent Home Entertainment Expo to introduce two new projectors incorporating Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology. The Vision Series Model 40/Model 40ET and the Model 20/Model 20ET use TI’s latest 16:9 native HD-2 DLP chip technology. The Model 40 has advanced engineering innovations, user features, and videophile picture quality, according to Vidikron executives. The Model 20/20ET offers a "host of professional features not typically found in projectors in this price range."

The "ET" suffix stands for "extended throw," a capability added by an optional lens. The Vision Model 40 offers a variable throw distance of 1.38:1 to 1.63:1, while the Model 40ET provides a longer variable throw distance of 1.80:1 to 2.40:1. The Vision Model 20 offers a variable throw distance of 1.71:1 to 2.06:1, while the Model 20ET provides a longer variable throw distance of 2.2:1 to 3.1:1. All models have professional grade lenses and feature a unique ‘cat’s eye’ optical system that enhances contrast and optimizes black level performance. A 9-point white balance system enables superb gray scale tracking for images with crisp detail and deeply saturated colors.

The Model 40/40ET delivers light output of 950 ANSI lumens and contrast ratios of 1600:1. The Model 20/20ET delivers 850 ANSI lumens of light output and 1500:1 contrast ratios. Both projectors are ideal for screens up to 96" wide, according to Vidikron.

Among the signal processing features built into the new projectors are video 3:2 film detection circuitry and full HDTV compatibility (with outboard tuner/decoder or satellite receiver). These ensure that Vidikron projectors are capable of projecting any video source with stunning results. All models have advanced digital keystone correction for easy installation and support multiple aspect ratio control, including Vidikron’s IntelliWide mode, which enables the viewing of standard video formats in widescreen without loss of image quality. External control is via discrete IR or RS-232 port (for interfacing with automated home entertainment systems or computers.)

Vidikron plans to leverage the launch of the new projectors with many new home theater products to come, according to the company's director of corporate communications Mark Stein. “These new models are the first of what will be a comprehensive line of home theater display and video enhancement products from Vidikron,” he stated at a press tour held Wednesday, June 4, just prior to the start of the 2003 Home Entertainment Expo.

The Vision Model 40 and Model 20 will be available in July, at suggested retail prices of $8999 and $5499, respectively. Also due in July, the "ET" lens option adds another $1000 to either price.
