Velcro. . .secret to world's thinnest TV mount!

I'm not gonna lie; it's nice to be proven right. For the "CES 2008 in Perspective" article, I wrote, "Note to flat-panel wall-mount manufacturers: 2-inch-thick mounts aren't going to cut it anymore. Start working on new designs now!"

And today, flat-panel mount manufacturer, Peerless Industries, heeded my words by unveiling a new line of ultra-thin mounts. Their new Slimline mounts hug sets a scant .4-inches from the wall! (That's about the thickness of a CD jewel case if anybody remembers what those are.)

The Slimline series will be the world's thinnest mounts and make the perfect pairing for all of the new super-skinny flat panel TV's due to roll out in the sub 2-inch thick range. And with a UL rated load capacity up to 150 pounds, they'll also sveltely handle your current, no-longer-flat, flat panel.

To hit a depth less than one-half an inch, you don't have space for pesky things like screws and bolts, so one of the secrets to a flatter-than-flat mount is Peerless' use of industrial-strength Velcro as a latching system. While this doesn't actually hold the TV to the wall, it will ensure that the TV doesn't budge once its set into position.

The mounts will be unveiled at the upcoming InfoComm show in Las Vegas this June, and will be initially offered in three sizes, accommodating sets up to 60-inches. Pricing is yet to be announced, but expect it to be expensive like all thin, sexy things. -John Sciacca
