Universal To Release Over 100 HD DVD Titles In 2007

Universal Studios, the only Hollywood studio currently supporting HD DVD exclusively, announced that it will release over 100 HD DVD titles in 2007, comprised of new and classic films and television shows. Many will be new titles released day and date with DVD discs, and over 90% of the titles released will be HD DVD/DVD combo discs.

On January 18th Universal kicked off its 2007 HD DVD slate with Brokeback Mountain and The Mummy Returns, and the Steve Martin classic The Jerk and David Fincher's cult hit The Game, starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn, are both set for April release.

New release titles scheduled for '07 HD DVD release include Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men, and The Good Shepherd, which are in theaters now, as well as Smokin' Aces, which is scheduled for release in US theaters on January 26th.

Recent hits will include 40-Year-Old Virgin and Battlestar Galactica S1. Other identified catalog titles include the cult classic 1983 remake of Scarface starring Al Pacino, American Pie, The Big Lebowski, Bourne Identity, Terry Gilliam's classic Brazil, Bruce Almighty, Erin Brockovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Inside Man, Liar, Liar, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Meet the Fockers, Pride and Prejudice, both Dawn of the Dead and Shaun of the Dead, and Slap Shot.

This news comes rather hot on the heels of a wave of announcements from exclusive Blu-ray supporting studios at CES, including Buena Vista (Disney), Fox and MGM, Lion's Gate and Sony.
