Turner Sports Presents: NBA in 3D

While the NFL had a limited showing of a football game recently to press and invited guests, the NBA and Turner Sports is bringing 3D to the masses. The NBA All-Star Saturday Night - 3-point contest, skill challenge and most fun, slam dunk contest - will be broadcast live, in 3D on February 14, 2009, in theaters.

The broadcast will be available at 80 theaters in 35 states -- on up to 160 screens total. The ticket price will range from $18 to $22. Not bad for a revolutionary event.  According to the NBA this will be "the first-ever fully marketed deal to deliver an NBA sporting event to the public in Live 3D"

"The last few seasons we have embraced 3D HD as a new and innovative way to experience the excitement of our game and look forward to putting fans coast-to-coast in a courtside seat for All-Star Saturday Night," says Steve Hellmuth, the NBA's executive VP of operations and technology.

"This is about embracing new technology and being innovative," said David Levy, president of Turner Broadcasting Sales Inc. and Turner Sports. "We're aiming at the Saturday night moviegoer," Levy said. "And we'll be able to do things with the 3-D cameras that we wouldn't normally be able to do with a live game."
