Toy Story 3 busts records for Pixar, 3D, kids' films

Toystory3

Pixar just keeps making gold. Its latest film, Toy Story 3, has captured the hearts of critics and the cash of moviegoers, breaking several records in its opening weekend.

According to Box Office Mojo, Toy Story 3 has had both the biggest G-rated opening weekend and the biggest June opening weekend in movie history, respectively beating out Finding Nemo by $40 million and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen by $2 million. The film has received critical acclaim as well, with a 98% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an average score of 91 on Metacritic.

Toy Story 3 was released on both 2D and 3D, and we haven't seen the breakdown of ticket sales between the two formats. While it probably won't beat Avatar, Toy Story 3 could possibly be the most popular 3D childrens' film, the most popular childrens' film, and one of the most popular 3D films to date. I saw it over the weekend, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it as a fantastic film for all ages. Pixar's really done it again.
