Toshiba tries to back out of World Cup free TV deal

Worldcup

Few people were expecting Spain to win the World Cup. Toshiba, in particular, put a significant amount of money on the line based on that. The company offered to pay back in full any money spent on a Toshiba TV in Spain if the Spanish team wins the World Cup. Well, Spain won, and now Toshiba is trying to get out of the deal.

The devil is in the details, and Toshiba is arguing that it doesn't have to pay the money back unless the customer registered the TV before June 17. While that rule was posted on Toshiba's web site, it wasn't included in any of the advertisements displaying the deal. Bit of a bummer.
