Tiny HD: World's Smallest Camcorder

True high-def camcorders tend to be on the bulky side compared to their standard-def brethren. Sony is touting its new HDR-TG1 camcorder as the world's smallest full-HD version, so there's no real excuse to leave the camcorder at home while you head off on a family vacation with only a carry-on bag in tow. Other than the price, of course.

The HDR-TG1 is available for a $900 pre-order tomorrow and will arrive in May, just in time to capture all variety of school graduations.

The titanium-clad camcorder weights 10 ounces, and is only 4.7-inches tall and 1.3-inches thick and shoots 1920 x 1080 video, while sound is recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound. A Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 10x optical zoom lens takes advantage of Sony's facial-recognition software: The camcorder recognizes eight faces and adds in extra details (good ones) to the faces it is familiar with.

Once you've collected high-def recordings of your family's adventures and mishaps, remind everyone how tech-savvy you are by broadcasting your own HD channel at Motionbox. -Rachel Rosmarin
