Thin, Thinner, Thinnest

Last May, LG announced the world's thinnest LCD TV panels at that time, with 42- and 47-inch sizes measuring only 5.9mm thick. Now, only seven months later, the company has broken its own record by cutting that figure in half with a 42-inch panel only 2.6mm thick, bringing it squarely into OLED territory.

The 42-inch panel weighs less than 9 pounds and uses LED edge lighting as well as other "slimming technologies" such as a proprietary optical film to achieve its remarkably thin profile. With full 1080p resolution and 120Hz operation, it's sure to attract attention at CES next month.
