Sunfire Atmos Subwoofer HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the Atmos subwoofer (blue trace).

The Atmos’s close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 hertz, indicates that the lower –3-decibel point is at 38 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 36 Hz. The upper –3-dB point is at 90 Hz with the FREQ control set to maximum and the EQ reset to factory default.—MJP

Velodyne MicroVee (6" woofer with dual passive radiators, 1000 watts rms).. From AudioHolics review the MicroVee can achieve these numbers
Frequency MicroVee Output
20 Hz - 60dB
30 Hz - 83dB
40 Hz - 87dB
50 Hz - 101dB
60 Hz - 102dB
70 Hz - 105dB
80 Hz - 104dB
100 Hz - 100dB

And this is at $799 asking price.. So you can almost buy 3 of the Velodyne micro subs for the price of one Sun Fire..

I fail to picture the customer for this subwoofer. Who can afford to spend $2k on a sub but has both no space for a sub and low expectations? There are several products on the market for less money and far better performance that aren't much bigger.
