Now, of course, the government wanted the rebates to be an economic stimulus, so what better way to stimulate the economy than shiny new gadgets? Forget about paying off debt, saving for the kids' college funds, or fending off foreclosures-go shopping instead!

In fact, Circuit City is even adding an extra 15% to get you in the door. Oh, wait, I just read the fine print. That's up to 15% off. Nice touch-they've even broken it down by rebate check category. Getting $300 back? Check out a new game system. $600? How about a nifty new laptop? If you're one of those lucky "married, filing jointly"-types, you can spend your whole $1200 check on a 42" TV.
