Soon: Movies 24-7 with 200-disc Sony Mega-Changer

The movies and music will never stop. Electronics giant Sony announced last week that it is introducing a 200-disc DVD/CD changer. The DVP-CX850D "mega-changer" will hit the market in September with a suggested retail price of $999, according to a company press release.

The carousel machine is intended as an upgrade for the more than 25 million CD changers already in the marketplace. "We're encouraging people with CD changers who are also interested in the DVD-Video format to switch to one of our multi-disc DVD/CD changers," says Mike Fidler, vice president of the home A/V marketing division of Sony Electronics' Consumer Products Marketing Group.

A $799 five-disc changer, the DVD-C650D, will contain all the operating features of its larger sibling. Due out in August, the 650 will replace the DVP-C600D, which debuted last year. Although it won't be officially on the market until late summer, one dealer we spoke with in a Sony "key city" said he believed the DVD-C650D was already available.
