Sony Announces Slate of Audio Products

Sony announced availability and pricing for nine new audio products, including two AV receivers, a Blu-ray player with Hi-Res audio capability, a soundbar, and wireless speakers.

The following products are available online and slated to hit shelves at Best Buy and other stores May 15, unless otherwise noted:

CAS-1 High-Res desktop audio system ($1,000, in stores May 22) – An all-in-one system with two speakers featuring a built-in headphone amp, compatibility with Sony’s SongPal app, and Bluetooth capability with Sony’s LDAC audio coding and NFC.

HT-NT5 TV soundbar ($800) – Supports Hi-Res Audio playback as well as 4K/Ultra HD and high dynamic range (HDR) video via HDMI/HDCP 2.2 and includes a wireless subwoofer, built-in Google Cast, and multiroom capability via Sony’s SongPal app.

PS-HX500 Hi-Res USB turntable ($600, in stores May 22) – Features a built-in A/D converter that supports Hi-Res digital transfers in native DSD (up to 5.6 MHz) or WAV format up to 192 KHz/24-bit and Hi-Res digital outputs, enabling vinyl recordings to be played on Hi-Res devices such as Sony’s NW-ZX2 Walkman music player . STR-DN1070 7.1-channel AV receiver ($600) – Supports HDMI with HDCP2.2, 4K/60p (4:4:4), and HDR, and features a new DAC with native DSD playback up to 5.6 MHz/5.1, wireless multiroom playback, Sony’s S-Force Pro front surround mode, Wi-Fi connectivity, AirPlay, Bluetooth, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect.

STR-DH770 7.2-channel AV receiver ($350) – Similar to STR-DN1070 but without the DSD-ready DAC.

UHP-H1 Blu-ray player ($350, pre-sale only) – Sony's first “Hi-Res-certified” player featuring playback of SACD and DVD-Audio discs and Hi-Res files, an anti-vibration chassis with a reinforced frame, 4K upscaling that adapts to the source video's resolution for the “best possible picture up to 60p,” Bluetooth connectivity with Sony’s LDAC audio coding, and wireless multiroom capabilities with Sony audio products via the SongPal app.

SRS-ZR7 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi speaker ($230) – A four-driver design that supports Hi-Res Audio playback, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, multiroom capability via the SongPal app, and Sony’s S-Master HX technology, which is said to reduce noise levels. The speaker also has an ARC-equipped HDMI port.

SRS-ZR5 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi speaker ($200) – Similar to the SRS-ZR7 but in a slightly smaller form factor and with wireless stereo pairing to expand the sound stage.

BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player ($130 online only) – Features 4K upscaling, Bluetooth connectivity, Sony’s LDAC audio coding technology, wireless multiroom capabilities with Sony audio products via the SongPal app.
