Sony and Amazon Coordinate VOD

Sony and Amazon are joining forces in a joint video-on-demand effort. Amazon's VOD services will function through Sony's Bravia Internet Video Link.

Many major TV brands are adding IP connectivity features to their products. What Sony's doing differently is cutting more deals. This latest deal will bring Amazon Video On Demand to owners of Sony Bravia HDTVs.

Consumers can either buy or rent programming through Amazon VOD and stream them to the Bravia Internet Video Link via home broadband. Offerings will include premium commercial-free movies and TV shows, including both HD and SD. Register the Bravia Internet Video Link with an Amazon account and order programming directly from the TV or online via the Amazon site. Streamed content can then be viewed immediately. Purchased or rented material is added to Amazon VOD's Your Video Library.

The Bravia Internet Video Link costs $300. Existing Bravia internet programming includes YouTube, CBS, Yahoo, Sports Illustrated, blip.tv, CondeNet Style.com, Men.Style.com, Epicurious, Wired.com, and Concierge.com. Available channels include Crackle from Sony Pictures, the Minisode Network, Timeless TV, Inside Sony Pictures, FEARnet, Ford Models, SingingFool, and VideoDetective.
