Small but Stylish LCD

Bang & Olufsen has come out with another electronics-with-style product - this time in the form of a 23-inch LCD TV. The Danish manufacturer says the new BeoCenter 6-23 incorporates a 23-inch 16:9 TFT LCD panel with an "anti-reflection coated and high-glare" screen that is designed to improve contrast and brightness - especially in day lit rooms. The new screen also offers a wider viewing angle, a feature that B&O says is especially important in a TV placed in a kitchen or hallway, which are typical locations for a home owner's secondary television.

The unit comes with the same Beo4 remote control that B&O packages with its other TVs and audio systems. The TV can be connected to external speakers, or it can be linked to a main-room B&O TV via the company's proprietary BeoLink system connectivity architecture. The BeoLink system - using B&O's Master Link cabling - will allow the BeoCenter 6-23 to display sources located in other rooms.

The TV incorporates a one-way loudspeaker that's mounted beneath the screen but tilted slightly upward. B&O says this configuration helps move the perception of sound up to seem like it is coming from the screen itself.

Other features of the BeoCenter 6-23 include a wake-up timer and a timer-play function for those who like to wake up to whatever nonsense may be broadcast at the time. A DVI-I input allows the set to be used as a PC monitor. There's also a built-in FM tuner with the ability to name up to 99 preset stations.

The television is designed with an aluminum front and frame which are available in a variety of colors, ranging from a "discrete" aluminum, black and dark gray version to a "dashing yet elegant" yellow, blue or red model.

A number of stands and wall-mount brackets are available. The most interesting are the motorized table and motorized floor stands. With the TV mounted on one of these stands, it can be turned by remote control towards the preferred seating location. When turned off, the TV will return to its original orientation. (How cool is that?)
