SI Intros Low Gain Ambient-Light-Rejecting Screen

Screen Innovation says its new Slate .8 projection screen features the company’s most versatile ambient-light-rejecting technology to date.

Designed for use in brightly lit environments and available in sizes up to 250 inches (diagonal) in fixed and motorized formats, the 0.8-gain black screen is said to reject 65 percent of a room’s ambient light versus “less than 10 percent” with a white or gray screen. Prices start at $2,100.

The Slate line was introduced in 2013 as an affordable alternative the company’s Black Diamond series. Calling Slate .8 the “first massive, ambient-light black screen,” SI founder and president Ryan Gustafson said, “Our dealers are installing Slate .8 in well-lit rooms and experiencing black levels and improved contrast that were unimaginable a year ago.”
