I set the backlight to achieve a comfortable peak-white level in a darkened room with OPC off, then I measured the 100 IRE window and black field with OPC on and off; the results shown here are with OPC off. With OPC on, the peak-white level was 19.3fL and the black level was 0.017fL, resulting in a peak contrast ratio of 1135:1. The black level was a little better with OPC on, but most folks would find a peak-white level of 19.3fL to be too dim.

Some vertical banding was visible in high-frequency burst via component, even though the aspect ratio was set to Dot by Dot.

Grayscale & Color Temperature

Before calibration, the grayscale tended toward blue, even in the Low color-temp setting.

Calibrating the single set of RGB controls in the user menu brought it much closer to D65, though the low end still tended toward blue.

A service-menu calibration got the entire grayscale very close to D65.

As expected, blue was dominant before calibration.

After the user-menu calibration, color tracking looked very good except at the low end, which went blue.

The service-menu calibration brought the color tracking close to perfection.

The color temperature trended quite high before calibration.

The user-menu calibration brought the color temperature close to 6500K except at the low end.

Can't get much better than this after the service-menu calibration.

Color Accuracy

The color gamut was quite good out of the box, though green, yellow, and cyan were off the mark.

The CMS allowed me to bring the yellow and cyan points to their targets, but green was not in a position that could be improved.

X
