Pioneer and Onkyo to Support DTS Play-Fi

DTS has announced that Pioneer and Onkyo will upgrade select soundbars, AV receivers, lifestyle products, and home theaters-in-a-box with the DTS Play-Fi streaming platform via firmware updates.

DTS Play-Fi integration for both brands will also extend to 2017 models and additional product categories, according to the announcement made last week at IFA 2016 in Berlin.

The company also announced plans to start rolling out discrete 5.1 surround sound support for Play-Fi in late September and said the music streaming service Qobuz will be available through Play-Fi. The service maintains a library of more than 30 million titles for streaming in CD quality and offers 24-bit high-resolution downloads of more than 45,000 albums.

Qobuz joins a roster including Amazon Prime Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, KKBox, Napster, QQ Music, Pandora, SiriusXM, Spotify, Tidal, and thousands of Internet radio stations.

DTS Play-Fi is a Wi-Fi-based multi-room, multi-zone, multi-user platform that transmits audio in a lossless format to preserve quality and supports synchronization when streaming audio from YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, or any video source to a DTS Play-Fi speaker from a Microsoft Windows PC.

DTS claims Play-Fi is the only multi-room streaming platform to offer lip-sync accurate synchronization with a video source, and the only whole-home platform with operating system-level integration compatible with every application and streaming service. The A/V sync feature is available for existing and new purchasers of the DTS Play-Fi HD Driver ($14.95).

Play-Fi apps are available for Android and iOS devices and Kindle Fire. The company says the apps have been enhanced with a new “switch” feature to easily transfer music from one speaker to another and a user interface said to streamline access to basic and advanced controls.
