Onkyo Launches Three Progressive Scan Players

Progressive scan DVD players continue to reach new levels of affordability.

On September 19, Onkyo introduced three modestly-priced players that deliver high quality audio and video performance, including progressive scan for HD-quality video output, and 192 kHz/24-bit digital to analog converters for high-resolution audio playback.

Two of the models, the DV-SP300 and the DV-SP500, are single-play units; the third is a five-disc carousel changer, the DV-CP500. The DV-SP300 retails for $200, and the other two go for $300 each. The new machines offer high-resolution audio, with internal digital-to-analog converters operating at 24bits/192kHz.

All of Onkyo's new DVD players can also play CDs, CD-R/CD-RWs, and MP3- encoded CDs. The DV-CP500 changer includes "true random playback" so that it can be used as a CD jukebox. The DV-SP500 includes Onkyo's Vector Linear Shaping Circuit (VLSC), claimed to generate a smoother output than conventional analog filtering circuits.

Progressive scan inputs allow the newer generation of displays to create more life-like images. Onkyo's latest players bring this feature to a growing segment of the market. For more info, visit the Onkyo website.
