Nirotek Launches Niro Two 6.1 System

Consumers typically have just two objections to surround sound: the proliferation of loudspeakers and their cost. Torrance, CA-based Nirotek America appears to have solved both problems with the ingenious Niro Two 6.1 System, available in October.

Unlike standard 6.1 systems, which include three front speakers and three in the rear, plus a subwoofer, the Niro Two 6.1 employs just two front and rear speakers, and a compact subwoofer. The Two 6.1 is a complete loudspeaker system and AM/FM 6-channel receiver, incorporating MRC’s patented Niroson™Cinema technology.

The system combines six independent loudspeaker systems into two centrally located super enclosures, one front and one rear, to create a true high-fidelity 6.1 surround listening experience. The front and rear arrays are virtually identical, with each cabinet containing three high performance mid-woofers and three ceramic-coated dome tweeters. The front speaker enclosure adds a built-in IR sensor. Solid aluminum accents give the enclosures a contemporary elegance.

Nirotek hasn't ignored the importance of deep, satisfying low bass. The Two's 150-watt subwoofer is a 12" cube with one 8" driver aided by two 8" passive radiators. The system is "simple to install, simple to configure, simple to use," in the words of national sales manager Lee Adams.

The A/V 6-Channel AM/FM Niroson™Cinema Receiver, incorporates many features including Dolby®Digital EX, DTS®ES, Dolby ProLogic® II and video switching. The front display brightens upon receiving a command. A front panel optical input facilitates high-performance gaming. The Two 6.1 has the newest Cirrus Logic® CS49400 processor, which performs surround duties and harnesses an additional powerful 32-bit post-processing DSP for post-surround NirosonCinema processing, system equalization and 24db/octave Butterworth crossover.

Included with the system is a simple-to-operate universal full system remote control with a built-in URC code library for basic DVD, VCR/DVR, and satellite/cable operation. Also bundled with the Two 6.1 are a quick set-up guide, front speaker angle/TV support mounting kit, and subwoofer spikes/cups. The Nirotek Two 6.1 should be available in October at approximately $1,999.

A prototype of the system was very well received at the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show. Designer Niro Nakamichi, of Nakamichi cassette deck fame, has said, “Never in over thirty years designing audio products, have I had an opportunity to positively impact so many.” If you've been aching to install a surround system in a small room, and you've got two grand to spend, the Nirotek Two 6.1 may be just what you've been looking for.
