0904 new products - archosArchos Traveling so much that you have no time to watch TV? Just record your favorite shows on the Archos AV400, and you can take them with you. The little recorder packs a big hard disk - choose 20 or 80 GB - and records video in MPEG-4 format for "near" DVD quality, according to the company. That's good enough for 40 or 160 hours of video, respectively, and any unused space will provide a handy spot for JPEG photos or digital music files - the Archos plays MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio), and WAV formats. You can record and play back video through analog connections on the supplied cradle, and there's a USB port and a CompactFlash card slot for uploading digital audio and video. The recorder's Scheduler can even change the channel on your VCR or cable box. The screen measures just under 4 inches (diagonal) and has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Price: 20 GB, $550; 80 GB, $800. www.archos.com, 949-609-1483

0904 new products - tivo TiVoDesigned with simplicity of use in mind, the TiVo Series2 recorders from Korean manufacturer Humax can do more than just time-shift TV shows. Using the pair of back-panel USB ports, you can stream digital audio and photos from your PC for playback through the recorder, or stream recorded programs to other TiVo units. But of course, banking TV shows is still what TiVo is all about: the T800 comes with an 80-hour hard disk, or you can supersize it to 250 hours on the T2500 (both at the maximum-compression/minimum-picture-quality setting). The recorder updates its two-week electronic program guide automatically through a telephone line, and selecting the Season Pass option for a series will ensure you never miss an episode. The TiVo guide can even suggest and record programs based on those you've recorded in the past. Prices: T800, $299; T2500, $699. www.humaxusa.com, 866-486-2987

0904 new products - krellKrell The look of the speakers in the Krell Resolution Series has as much to do with their acoustics as their style. The 1-inch-thick cabinets have 2-inch-thick baffles to eliminate resonances. And the distinctive curved sides help prevent internal standing waves that can degrade sound. Sure to brighten a room with its warm cherry finish, the Resolution 3 bookshelf speaker (shown) has an 8-inch woofer, a 1-inch tweeter, and a rated response of 53 Hz to 20 kHz ±2.5 dB. Price: $4,000 a pair. www.krellonline.com, 203-799-9954

0904 new products - pioneer Pioneer Sure to impress any passengers, the motorized, retractable LCD screen of Pioneer's AVH-P6600DVD head unit slides in and out of your dash at the touch of a button. It's also a touchscreen, so you can select sources and change settings by tapping the smooth 6 1/2 -inch display. When the LCD is retracted, a readout below relays information. The amp section is rated to deliver 50 W x 4, and the preamp outputs include a composite-video jack for hookup to a backseat monitor. Dual-zone capability means the folks in the rear don't have to agree with those up front on the entertainment (as long as they have headphones, of course). And for those long journeys, the DVD player can read CDs packed with MP3 or WMA files. Price: $1,600. www.pioneerelectronics.com, 800-746-6337
