Barco Once you start thinking a 70-inch TV might not be big enough, it's time to consider a front projector. The CineVersum 70 from Barco, a Belgian company, creates 16:9 widescreen images up to 90 inches diagonal. The projector's DLP (Digital Light Processing) chip renders them at 1,280 x 720 pixels - just right for the 720p (progressive-scan) HDTV format. High-def sources can connect to the projector's component-video, RGB+H/V, VGA, and DVI (Digital Visual Interface) inputs. Thanks to the lightweight DLP engine, the projector weighs only 17 pounds, so it's easier to mount than traditional, bulkier models. Its contrast ratio is rated 2,700:1, and an RS-232 port lets you integrate it with a control system. Price: $12,995. www.barco.com, 510-843-4500

JVC new products - 1004 - jvcJust relax and look at the pretty pictures, and let the D-ILA light engine in JVC's 61-inch HD-61Z795 rear-projection HDTV handle the rest. D-ILA stands for Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier (more commonly called LCoS, for liquid crystal on silicon), which has three chips for rendering images at 1,280 x 720-pixel resolution. The fine spacing between individual pixels is said to create a smoother image than other types of fixed-pixel TVs. Plus the TV has all the latest HDTV perks: a built-in tuner for receiving high-def programs over the air, a slot for a CableCARD - which you'd lease from your cable provider - for unscrambling premium channels without a cable box, and both HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and FireWire inputs for digital video and audio signals. The tabletop set weighs only 98 pounds and is 18 5/8 inches deep. Price: $6,000. www.jvc.com, 800-526-5308 new products - 1004 - sonySonyThe TV room? You'll have to be more specific if there's a Sony LF-X1 LocationFree TV in the house. The sleek, portable LCD panel can follow you wherever you wander - the kitchen, the patio, even the basement. High-bandwidth 802.11a and 802.11g Wi-Fi technology makes it possible for the TV's base station (below) to wirelessly stream TV shows or movies to the 12-inch, 800 x 600-pixel monitor. The base station has a range of about 100 feet, but you can keep watching even further - way further - away as long as you're in a Wi-Fi hotspot. (The base station needs a broadband Internet connection for long-distance streaming.) You can also surf the Internet with the monitor's Web browser and onscreen keyboard, or check out a digital slideshow of photos from the Memory Stick port. Available in October at $1,500. www.sonystyle.com, 800-222-7669
