NAD’s Chromecast-Enabled Class D Amp Now Available

NAD’s C 338 Class D integrated amp, hailed as the first “hi-fi amplifier” to feature built-in Chromcast streaming capability, is now available for $649, the company announced.

Previewed last fall at CEDIA 2016 and shown again at CES 2017 in January, the amp is the latest addition to NAD’s Classic Series. In addition to working “seamlessly” with hundreds of Chromecast-enabled music and audio apps, the C 338 supports UPnP and Bluetooth streaming, voice control when used with a Google Home speaker or Google Pixel phone, and marks the return of an NAD-designed moving-magnet phono stage featuring a solid-state volume control with a 120 dB of dynamic range in 0.5 dB steps, “high overload margin and low noise, super accurate RIAA equalization,” and a capacitor-less infrasonic filter.

The C 338 is rated to deliver 2 x 50 watts of continuous power into 4 or 8 ohms and 150 watts of dynamic power into 4 ohms thanks to an active power supply controlled by NAD’s Asymmetrical PowerDrive. The amp is built around NAD’s HybridDigital Class D technology, which uses a “variable modulation frequency to bring out the life-like qualities of music, while reducing distortion under every operating condition.” Power consumption is less than half that of other amplifiers in its class, according to NAD.

The amp can be controlled via the free NAD Remote App and is equipped with analog and optical/coaxial digital inputs in addition to the phono input.

Other highlights include eight DAC channels configured in a dual-differential array to support 120dB dynamic range, a dedicated headphone amplifier, subwoofer output, and bass equalizer
