Multichannel Gets Jazzed Up

Jazz fans will have something to sing about on October 24th when Giving' It Up, a collaboration of singer/guitarist/songwriter George Benson and vocalist/songwriter Al Jarreau - both multiple GRAMMY winners, will be released as a Monster Music SuperDisc.

The 13-track recording features each of the famous musicians performing a new arrangement of one of the other's hit songs. The disc includes appearances by Paul McCartney (who joins Benson and Jarreau on Sam Cooke's "Bring it on Home to Me"), Jill Scott (performing Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child"), along with Patti Austin and Chris Botti. Other musicians who appear on Givin' It Up are: keyboardists Patrice Rushen, Rex Rideout and Herbie Hancock; bassists Marcus Miller, Abraham Laboriel and Stanley Clarke; guitarists Dean Parks, Ray Fuller and Michael Thompson; saxophonist Marion Meadows; and drummers Vinnie Colaiuta and Michael White.

The Givin' It Up Monster SuperDisc will include two discs - a standard CD with a Stereo mix , and a standard DVD (playable in any DVD player) featuring High Definition Surround Sound in Dolby Digital and DTS 96/24 as well as High Definition Stereo which Monster says sounds exactly the same as the studio master file. The package will also feature multiple multichannel mixes that allow listeners to select a surround performance with different perspectives, such as being "in the band" of a live concert or "in the room" sitting next to the band.

Monster SuperDiscs also include High Definition Digital Music files that are encoded directly from the master recordings and are ready to "drag and drop" into any music program, including iTunes. Apple iPod users can listen to the Dolby Headphone-encoded files which provide the sensation of surround sound with any pair of standard headphones.
