Monitor Audio is not shy when it comes to boasting about its new flagship series of speakers, hence the opening line of its press release: “The Platinum II range has produced the most musical, accurate, and beautiful loudspeakers Monitor Audio has ever made.”

The series features a new MPD (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) high frequency transducer with a surface area eight times larger than that of a traditional dome tweeter, redesigned RDTII bass and mid drivers made from ultra-thin low-mass skins bonded to a honeycomb Nomex core, an improved crossover design, and precision speaker terminals milled from solid copper with Rhodium-plated conductor parts.

High-quality finishes include piano black gloss lacquer and natural wood veneers in Santos Rosewood or Natural Ebony, pair-matched and hand-coated with 11 layers of clear gloss piano lacquer. Front baffles are hand-upholstered with Inglestone leather, resulting in enclosures that require as many as 144 hours to complete.

The updated Platinum II lineup comprises seven models:

PL 100 II ($5,795/pair) – Compact two-way monitor with a 6.5-inch bass-mid driver and MPD tweeter. Floor stand available separately.

PL 200 II ($11,495 /pair) – Compact four-driver three-way floorstanding speaker with dual 6.5-inch long-throw woofers, an enclosed 4-inch midrange, and an MPD tweeter.

PL 300 II ($14,495 /pair) – Four-driver, three-way tower speaker with dual 8-inch long-throw bass drivers, an enclosed 4-inch midrange, and an MPD tweeter.

PL 500 II ($28,995 /pair) – Flagship four-driver, three-way tower speaker with four 8-inch long-throw woofers and dual 4-inch enclosed midrange drivers in an M-T-M configuration with and MPD tweeter.

PLC 150 II ($3,995 each) – Three driver, 2.5-way center-channel speaker with a 6.5-inch woofer, 6.5-inch bass-mid driver, and MPD tweeter, voiced to match the PL100 II and PL200 II. Floor stand available separately.

PLC 350 II ($5,795 each) – Four-driver, three-way center-channel speaker system with dual 8-inch woofers, a 4-inch midrange driver, and MPD tweeter, voiced to match the PL300 II and PL500 II. Floor stand available separately.

PLW 215 II ($6,995 each) – Sealed subwoofer featuring opposing, individually powered 15-inch C-CAM drivers, 1,400 watts continuous power, a rated in-room response of 19 Hz, and four configurable user presets with auto room EQ.
